PRELIMINARY INFORMATION:

The new BeeLineGPS HP is very similar to the BeeLine GPS, except it is has an integrated amplifier capable of delivering  up to 4 watts on the 70cm band.  Like the BeeLine  GPS, it has an optional integrated G-switch, but does NOT have any other dedicated telemetry inputs.

Key Features:

Transmits standard APRS data packets at 1200 baud. Integrated 12 channel GPS (works above 60K' MSL). Integrated RF amplifier: 1 watt  at 4 volts, 4 watts at 8 volts. 9 volts Vin maximum. Antenna and power supply NOT included. Measures just 3 1/4 x 1 1/4 inches and weighs just 2 ounces without battery. Power consumption:  2 amps at 8 volts.  Less than 100 milliamps when idle

Regarding antennas:  Given the high RF output power and lack of shielding and available ground plane  associated with this device, proper antenna selection is very important to ensure proper operation.  At 1 watt output, a 5/8 wave antenna works well if appropriate ground radials are provided.  at 4 watts a simple J-pole antenna  or other antenna that provides its own ground is recommended.  More information regarding antenna selection  can be found in the forums.
