RECEIVERS: If you want a good solid receiver for general purpose use, I highly recommend a VX-6 from Ham Radio Outlet. You will need an external TNC (see below) To receive and decode APRS packets in a single, handheld unt, then the TH-D7 is an excellent choice, again available at Ham Radio Outlet. The supplied antenna has been used to receive and reliably decode packets from more than 40,000' in the air (line of sight). When ordering either of these radios, don't forget to order the appropriate adapters to go from the antenna connector on the radio to whichever connecter is on the external antenna, if needed. Please let me know if you need assistance. TNCS: There are too many external TNC's to mention them all. However, a nice handheld kit, called the PicPac is available from Byonics. If you're using the VX-6 with an external TNC, you'll also need the appropriate data cables. Antennas: Both the five and seven element Yagis from Arrow appear to be a good, solid choice.
